Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a film based on the comic book series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley. This American action comedy was directed by Edgar Wright. This is a love story which has an intricate plot: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World movie is about Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) meeting a beautiful girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and falling in love with her immediately. But there are many formidable obstacles on the way to their love: to be with Ramona, Scott must defeat Ramona’s “seven evil exes”, who are pursuing one particular aim: to kill him.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was planned to be shot as a film after was released the first volume of the comic. Edgar Wright became the director of the movie and began filming in March 2009 in Toronto, Ontario. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con International on July 22, 2010. A little later, on August 13, 2010, it received a wide-release in North America.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a movie with an intricate and breathtaking plot: As soon as the story begins we get to know Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), who is the guitarist for the band “Sex Bob-omb” in Toronto. Though all his friends are against his dating high schooler Knives Chau (Ellen Wong) he does not listen to them. However he soon loses the interest in Knives as he meets and immediately falls in love with some enigmatic American girl with a beautiful name Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). But his unclouded happiness starts to disappear as soon as he meets the first of Ramona’s evil exes Matthew Patel (Satya Bhabha). It all happens while he is playing in a battle of the bands to win a record contract. Effortlessly Scott defeats Patel. Later Ramona tells him that, if he wants her to be his girlfriend , he must defeat seven of her evil exes, who have only one wish to be fulfilled: to destroy Scott and this way to keep Ramona’s life under control.
Knives is obsessed with winning Scott back from Ramona, and is very angry because he dumped her. However, Scott does not pay much attention to her, as he is busy with other things: he learns that Lucas Lee (Chris Evans), the second evil ex, who is a rather famous actor and successful skateboarder is coming to Toronto. Scott decides to make Lee perform a dangerous skateboard stunt. The plan is a success and Scott defeats Lee easily. But as there are still several exes left, Scott cannot have a relaxation yet. He meets the third evil ex, Todd Ingram (Brandon Routh). But what a coincidence, Todd Ingram is dating Scott’s ex-girlfriend Envy Adams (Brie Larson)! Todd tries to defeats Scott with the help of his psychic vegan abilities, which are taking away from him by the Vegan Police after they see Todd having a half and half cup of coffee instead of coffee with soy milk( of course it was Scott`s trick to defeat Todd ).
Scott also defeats the fourth evil ex Roxy Richter (Mae Whitman),but all this dating history of Ramona makes him rather upset. Soon at the battle of the bands, Sex Bob-omb faces the fifth and six evil exes Kyle (Keita Saito) and Ken (Shota Saitto), who are twins. This victory over them earns Scott an extra life. There is only one ex left Gideon Graves (Jason Schwartzman) and during the battle, Scott sees Ramona together with him. Gideon Graves turns out to be Sex Bob-omb’s sponsor G-Man, who prompts Scott to leave Sex Bob-omb as they sign the record deal. Ramona decides to breaks up with Scott as she is not able to leave Gideon Graves because of a microchip, which is implanted in her head and controlled by him.
Gideon and Scott fight at the Chaos Theater, where Scott avows his love to Ramona and gets the “Power of Love” sword. Scott gets killed by Gideon but as he has an extra life, he makes the use of it and immediately continues to fight with Gideon. Scott solves all the issues with Ramona and his friends, and earns a bonus points and the “Power of Self-Respect” sword. This helps him to defeat Gideon. Ramona becomes finally free from Gideon, and now these two lovebirds have the best opportunity to begin everything anew and to enjoy each other and their relationship.

The production of Scott Pilgrim vs the World 2010: As soon as the first volume of Scott Pilgrim was completed by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Oni Press, who was his publisher, decided to contact a rather famous producer Marc Platt with an offer to make a film based on it. Edgar Wright agreed to be the director of the movie as he had just finished his last film, Shaun of the Dead. O’Malley originally had mixed feelings about a film adaptation as he did not want his comics to turn out into some second-rate comedy with some lousy actors, but he was a starving artist, who desperately needed money, so he agreed.
Michael Bacall wrote the screenplay for the adaptation in May 2005 and by January 2009, the cast was organized for the film, which was titled Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. O’Malley was very involved with the plot of the film from the very beginning: he was constantly polishing certain scenes.
O’Malley at first said that nothing from Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, the sixth Scott Pilgrim volume, would appear in the film. But later he admitted that during the filming he did actually give Wright and Bacall his notes for the sixth book.
The process of filming started in March 2009 in Toronto and finished in August. The ending of the movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World has two variations: the original ending, which was written before the release of the final Scott Pilgrim book and the final ending. In the first variant of the ending Scott and Knives get together, while in the final version Scott gets together with Ramona.
The film production budget was somewhere between $85-90 million with the final cost of $60 million (after tax rebates).
About the casting of Scott Pilgrim movie: Director Wright was fully satisfied and confident with the actors that were chosen during the casting. Wright stated that he loved how they” had great people in every single tiny part”. He also stressed that it was great that alongside with well-known actors like Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman, there were people who are sure to get famous soon, like Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza and Brie Larson.
Also, what is peculiar about the casting of Scott Pilgrim movie is that there was no studio interference with casting. Wrigh said that fortunately, he was not made to choose bigger people for the roles in the movie. So he decided that the best variant would be to choose not the biggest names, but people who certainly know who they are. About choosing Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim Wright said that he needed an actor that “audiences will still follow even when the character is being a bit of an ass”. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was chosen for Ramona Flowers two years before the start of the filming. Wright explained his choice easily: “she has a very sunny disposition as a person, so it was interesting to get her to play a version of herself that was broken inside. She’s great in the film because she causes a lot of chaos but remains supernaturally grounded”. Ellen Wong was trying to get the role of Knives Chau three times. Everybody was rather surprised to find out that this sweet young lady had a green belt in taekwondo.
The list of Scott Pilgrim vs the World sound tracks: The contribution to the Scott Pilgrim vs the World soundtrack of Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Beck, Metric, Broken Social Scene, Cornelius, Dan the Automator, Kid Koala, and David Campbell is enormous. The music, which was played by Sex Bob-omb in the film, was composed by Beck. All the songs for Crash and the Boys were composed by Brendan Canning and Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene. Erik Knudsen( plays the role of Crash) sung the tracks to the movie himself. Drew stated that Knudsen didn’t need to be a singer to pull it off, as the songs were so quick, punk and fast that it needed to be the character’s voice. Metric have contributed the song “Black Sheep” to the movie and also, they influenced the band Clash at Demonhead in the movie. The clothes of the lead singer of Clash at Demonhead were based on the clothes of Emily Haines, Metric’s lead singer. As the guitar coach for the actors, Chris Murphy of the band Sloan was chosen. To get the permission to use the music from The Legend of Zelda video game series, Edgar Wright sent a clip of the film and wrote a letter to Nintendo asking for the permission. In the letter the music was described as “like nursery rhymes to a generation”.
